Frequently Asked Questions
Our Travelers interested in visiting Maras and Moray were asked the following questions.
1) When is the best time to visit Maras and Moray?
The best time to visit Peru’s Maras Salt Mines and the ruins of Moray in the Sacred Valley is during the dry season, which runs from April through October. (The dry season means nicer weather and more beautiful colors. ).
However the high tourist season is the same time as the dry season, so it is also suggested to visit it during the wet season as the amount of tourists is reduced to 60% which allows you to visit each place with almost nobody around you. (During the wet season, the salt pans acquire a more brownish color).
2) Can I suffer from altitude sickness in Maras and Moray?
Our highest point is in Chinchero at 3750 meters (12303.15 ft) and our lowest point during the tour is the town of Maras found at 3300 meters, (10826.77 ft).
The possibility of suffering from altitude sickness during your tour is quite low, since the Sacred Valley is lower in elevation than Cusco, if you have just arrived in Cusco from Lima this half day tour will help you to acclimatize gradually to the altitude. However it is advisable to drink coca tea before or during your tour, or take an ibuprofen for a headache if it occurs.
