Machu Picchu New Regulations
Machu Picchu, one of the 7 most visited wonders of the world.
Every year thousands of travelers visit Machu Picchu through different ways, hiking the Inca Trail, by bus or train, whichever route they take the destination is Machu Picchu.
Usually, 1 year ago there was a certain freedom to visit the Inca citadel, taking different routes which allowed us to visit most of the places during the tour.
Although it was not possible to exit and re-enter the site, it was flexible when exploring it since you could choose to start at the highest or the lowest part of the Inca city.
However, for this 2022 the Peruvian government as well as the Peruvian Ministry of Culture have established new routes to visit Machu Picchu which will make your visit a little shorter or longer depending on the route you choose when buying your Machu Picchu ticket.
The reason why these 4 new circuits have been established to visit Machu Picchu is to control the flow of visitor traffic.
Machu Picchu Circuit #01
The circuit 1 allows you to visit the highest part of Machu Picchu combined with the Inca bridge, the keeper’s house, the viewpoint of the temple of the sun, then descends to the urban sector, the quarry from there across the water mirrors to the lower section and then back to the exit.
Machu Picchu Circuit #02
This circuit is similar to circuit 1, with the exception that the visit is extended to the sundial, the sacred rock, the urban sector and the condor temple.
Machu Picchu Circuit #03
The route of circuit number 3 is the shortest of all. It consists of visiting only the lower part of the city of Machu Picchu, terraces, across the water fountain. This is the route also combined with the visit to Machu Picchu Mountain. This circuit is especially suggested for people with reduced mobility.
Machu Picchu Circuit #04
This circuit is somewhat similar to the third circuit with the addition of the Sacred Rock, the warehouses. This is the route that is combined with the visit to Huayna Picchu Mountain. This circuit only passes through the lower sector, which leads to the back of the citadel ending with the visit to the temple of the Condor.
