Our tour starts at 8am from your hotel in Ollantaytambo.
Our first site will be Ollantaytambo ruins. Ollantaytambo is one of the best-well preserved Inca towns in all of Peru. Many of the original buildings from the 15th century are still standing. We will be exploring the site for about 1 hour.
Visitng the exquisite terracing, fountains, aqueducts, and ruins. The ruins also display narrow walkways, lined with water channels.
From Ollantaytambo, there is a 45-minute drive through beautiful farmlands to Maras village. Here we will see colonial style Spanish streets and colonial doorways.
At Moray Inca site you will see the agricultural terraces built along the hillsides. These terraces were built to grow different crops at different elevations.
Our last site to visit will be Maras Salt Mines, there are over 6000 salt ponds which were used by the Incas for salt extraction. After learning about Incan agricultural techniques and the Salt Mines, we will make your way to Ollantaytambo, for lunch (if you include it into the tour you have lunch in Urubamba) in case not you will be dropped off at your hotel. If you are finisging the tour in Cusco, we will be visitng Chinchero alpaca farm on the way to Cusco.

The first stop on this day trip from Ollantaytambo is the Cuy town, (Lamay). Along the highway passing the town of Lamay, you will see many ovens, with coals blazing, and in them you will see the cuys on a stick. Here we will stop for a while to take some pictures with some guinea pig statues along the way.

Each salt mine is owned by a family in the Maras community, which is responsible for extracting it and selling it in local stores or in nearby towns.
We start our tour of Maras Salt Mines and Moray at approximately 8am, our English speaking guide will pick you up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo and then drive to the town of Maras, on the drive you will enjoy the scenic landscape of the Sacred Valley and the snow-capped peaks of the Peruvian Andes.
Finally, we will get to the fascinating display of terraces at Moray. It is believed that these terraces, dug into the earth in the shape of a bowl, served to determine the optimal conditions for crops.
When you finish visiting Moray, you will head about three kilometers away, to the salt mines of Maras, an ancient salt-producing center. There are more than 6,000 salt pools carved into the mountainside, which are filled daily with a stream of water. This place is perfect for you if you want to see something other than the ruins.

To make the most of your trip to Rainbow Mountain our amazing day trip to Rainbow Mountain from Ollantaytambo begins early in the morning at 3:30 am with pick up from your hote. And then, we set out in our private transport to drive by a paved road for about 2 hours towards the Southern Valley passing picturesque Andean towns to the village of Cusipata. Upon reaching the Cusipata village (3,300 masl /10,826 fasl), we provide a full continental breakfast, perfect fuel for the hiking ahead.
After breakfast, head to the starting point of your excursion. It is approximately 3 kilometers of flat uphill terrain, leading to the majestic “Montaña de Colores” (Colored Mountain).
The hike lasts approximately 1.5 hours, depending on your fitness level. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of the valleys, wild llamas, alpacas and vicuñas, as well as the nearby Andes.
