Rainbow Mountain & Machu Picchu Tour – Overview

Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain Tour – Commence on a seamless 5-day adventure with us in Cusco Peru, beginning with a warm welcome as we pick you up at the Cusco airport and take you to your hotel. This Cusco tour package does not include hotel however if requested we can include it or give you the best recommendations.

The first day is dedicated to acclimatization, allowing you to relax and adjust to the altitude, making sure you are ready for the remarkable journey ahead.

On day two, journey into the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, exploring ancient wonders such as Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray and the fascinating Salt Mines. After your exploration, catch the train to Aguas Calientes, a tourist town located in Machu Picchu.

The third day we start very early with a visit to Machu Picchu, watching the sunrise, here you will discover the mysteries of this ancient citadel with our local guide.

finally, on day 4 you will visit the famous Rainbow Mountain. On day five, we ensure a smooth transfer to the Cusco airport, ensuring that your trip concludes with comfort and great memories. Itinerary

Arriving at Alejandro Velasco Astete Cusco International Airport you will be transferred to your accommodation in cusco (no incluido).

In the afternoon (by prior arrangement) our guide will be giving you the orientation of the tour. We suggest that on the first day it is best to take it easy to adjust to the altitude, also if you are coming from a country with a different time zone.

You can chill out before doing any touring and just walk around Plaza de Armas.  You can take Diamox and  Coca tea. Everyone certainly feels much better on Day 2 in Cusco.  Make sure to stay hydrated, as dehydration can greatly accentuate altitude sickness.

Our guide will pick you up early from your hotel in Cusco at 8 am to be exact; heading to the Sacred Valley. During the Sacred Valley tour you will visit the following places:

  • Chinchero ruins
  • Andean Textile Center of Alpaca
  • Moray ruins
  • The Salt Mines

Then after we have visited these places, we will drive to the town of Urubamba where we will have lunch. Later on, after a well deserved lunch, we will transport you to Ollantaytambo station from where you will take the train to Aguas Calientes town. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, the staff of the hotel where you will be spending the night will be waiting for you (included in the tour).

In the early morning, your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Aguas Calientes and take you to the bus station. The bus ride takes 25 minutes, based on which time you chose to visit Machu Picchu. Your guide will take you to the highest part of Machu Picchu where you will be able to take the best pictures of Machu Picchu, then you will visit the Inca bridge located at about 20 minutes of walking. After this you begin to explore Machu Picchu, Normally travel agencies that offer tours to Machu Picchu don’t offer this option. So that you only visit Machu Picchu for 2 hours. However we make your visit last more than just 2 hours making the visit longer we visit the Inca bridge without additional cost, making our clients enjoy more their experience in Machu Picchu. After the tour you will take the bus back to town, where your guide will be waiting for you for lunch (included).

After lunch, you will take the train back to Cusco at approximately 3:20pm to Ollantaytambo train station, where our driver will be waiting to take you back to Cusco in a private car.

On this day we will visit the Rainbow mountain. We will leave Cusco at approximately 4:00am to the town of Cusipata where we will have breakfast after a 3 hour bus ride.

Then we will continue by car for 30 minutes more until we reach the beginning of the trek. Once there we have to walk for 1 hour and a half until we have reached the top of the Rainbow Mountain. From there we will have the most beautiful views of the Andes Mountains as well as the Red Valley on the other side. After a great time, we will descend for 1 hour, to carry on with our journey by car until we get to the place where we will have lunch. as soon as we have lunch, we will be returning to Cusco at approximately 4pm. the tour ends at your hotel in Cusco

The driver and guide were very polite, punctual and informative, the process was easy and the tour operator had a briefing call with us to give us all the timings. They also printed out all tickets for us which made every step go smoothly. The only tiny feedback point would be to send the itinerary via WhatsApp or email ahead of time, but it is such a minor thing. I would absolutely recommend it and use again!

Our group of 5 did a one day trip to Machu Picchu with pickup from Sacred Valley and drop off in Cusco. Carlos helped us tremendously in organizing the schedule and all needed tickets, and he checked up on us throughout the day to ensure we didn't have any problems. Carlos was extremely responsive and quick to answer any questions, and made us feel comfortable that the trip would go as planned. Our driver Alex and Machu Picchu tour guide Anibal were also excellent. Alex was flexible and navigated different pick up and drop off points and also a pit stop to grab our luggage. Anibal was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions throughout the tour, we did circuits 1 and 3, which was a perfect combination to not only get the views up top but also be in the ruins down below. Of course! Our 5 day tour allows you to visit these 2 iconic attractions plus many others such as the Sacred Valley of the Incas tour.

The Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu are quite far from each other, which makes it impossible to visit in 1 or 2 days. Both places are at different elevations as well as geographically different.

To do the 1 day excursion to the Rainbow Mountain it is necessary to be fully acclimatized to the altitude so we recommend beginning at Machu Picchu and ending with the hike to the Rainbow Mountain. Our itinerary is perfect for those looking for both, the Inca history and outdoor adventure.

Visiting Rainbow Mountain is totally worth it! If you are visiting Cusco, take a trip on the last day of your stay to one of the most spectacular attractions in the Peruvian Andes.

You will need to spend two or three days to acclimate in Cusco before you head to Vinicunca because you’ll reach a little over 5,200 masl.
