The Sacred Valley tour lasts half a day and allows you to visit the most important tourist attractions in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, among them: The ruins of Moray, which is one of the most amazing buildings in the world, Maras Salt Mines with its over 6,000 salt pans, each of which is no more than 5 meters square and less than 30 centimeters deep. Each salt mine is owned by a family in the Maras community, which is responsible for extracting it and selling it in local stores or in nearby towns.

Itinerary

We start our tour of Maras Salt Mines and Moray at approximately 8am, our English speaking guide will pick you up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo and then drive to the town of Maras, on the drive you will enjoy the scenic landscape of the Sacred Valley and the snow-capped peaks of the Peruvian Andes.

Finally, we will get to the fascinating display of terraces at Moray. It is believed that these terraces, dug into the earth in the shape of a bowl, served to determine the optimal conditions for crops.

When you finish visiting Moray, you will head about three kilometers away, to the salt mines of Maras, an ancient salt-producing center. There are more than 6,000 salt pools carved into the mountainside, which are filled daily with a stream of water. This place is perfect for you if you want to see something other than the ruins.

Once you are done with the tour, you will head back to Ollantaytambo.
