Inca Bridge Hike

What is the Inca Bridge?

How to Get to Inca Bridge?
Goes up from the main entrance of Machu Picchu, passing through the Caregiver’s Hut. Nearby, you should be able to see a wooden sign pointing the way to the Inca Bridge. If not, ask one of the many guards at the site to point out the way. The trail is a stone path, part of which is cut into a cliff fase. After a 30 minute walk from the citadel, at the end of a narrow path near the mountain, is Inca Bridge, the place where the Incas took refuge in the Andes, when they abandoned Machu Picchu. The view over the Urubamba River and the Andes seen through the cloud forest is absolutely amazing, especially since not many tourist come to visit this hidden trail.
Is it safe to hike to the Inca Bridge?
The trek is short and does not require much physical effort to complete. However, the path at times is narrow with steep cliffs but not dangerous. Although you should be careful, especially if you are hiking with children.
Where the Inca Bridge Leads to?
Back in Inca times, it is believed that the Inca bridge led to the town of Vilcabamba; considered also as the last refuge of the Inca. The Inca bridge was only used by the army who guarded the entrance to Machu Picchu. Nowadays it is not possible to cross the bridge because of the danger it is, the hike to the Inca bridge from Machu Picchu only reaches the beginning of the real trail to Vilcabamba.
