Come See Peru has earned TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for consistently receiving 5-star reviews of our tours in Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tours. This recognition highlights our exceptional service and dedicated attention to our clients.

Private tour of moray, Maras, ollaytamtambo and pisac Highly recommend this company - Carlos was a great guide, perfect English, passionate about his work and gave us many insights during our two days of guidance. We liked the first day so much that we booked another day with him. Cristobal the driver was lovely & friendly too and drove safely and well. The ruins were so much more interesting and rewarding with Carlos' knowledge. He took us to the less touristy parts of the ruins and provides architecture insights and history background as well. We also got lots of good food tips from him too and information about Peru and the Cusco region. We were initially hesitant in booking as it seems a bit expensive; however we would recommend that you just go ahead and book your tour! It's great and really worth it!

Outstanding Private Tour with Come See Peru We did a half day tour of the Sacred Valley, Moray, and Maras Salt Mines from Ollantaytambo with Carlos and Mario and they were outstanding and knowledgeable. Booking the tour was easy and they were very responsive to answer all my questions. They were right on time to pick us up from the hotel and their planning was perfect as we missed most of the crowd when we visited Moray and Maras Salt Mines. Carlos is professional, kind, passionate, and extremely knowledgeable. Having both of them who knew all the ins and outs of the area also take care to make sure we enjoyed ourselves made the entire trip memorable.

Wonderful and Productive Private Tour Wonderful tour by Carlos and superb driving by Mario. We were looking for transportation options from Ollantaytambo to Cusco, so figured why not get a tour out of it. No regrets. Enjoyed seeing Ollantaytambo and Moray ruins, Maras Salt Mines, and Pisac. They were very flexible with the start time. And not to mention, Carlos is an excellent storyteller and an amazing photographer. I highly recommend tours by this operator. Cheers!

Amazing tri to Rainbow Mountain What an amazing experience! I decided last minute to go see Rainbow Mountain and wanted it to be a special experience. Juan Carlos organized everything, making sure I was comfortable with the hike, the trip and the food for the day. My guide Matt was very knowledgeable, told me so many stories, shared traditions, essential oils and made the experience unforgettable. The drive was long but very comfortable, the food was really good and the views are just magical. The kindness of all people involved made the trip even more special. Thank you!

Best tour ever! Best tour ever!! ComeSeePeru brought us around the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu over three days from Urubamba. Carlos, our guide, was excellent, informative and knowledgeable - he took care to plan our schedule so we visited each site at the least crowded times. Mario, our driver, was also very skilled, and the van was very spacious and comfortable. Carlos and Mario went above and beyond to make our Sacred Valley experience a great one. We were sadly down with food poisoning, and Carlos helped with altitude sickness medicine and tea and drove us to the nearest pharmacies to get medicine. When we were tired after having to walk to the Moray ruins due to a road closure, Mario also drove up by a separate route to meet us by the end point, so we wouldn’t have to walk back again. All in all, ComeSeePeru made our honeymoon experience in Peru an amazing one! 100% would recommend for anyone looking for a thoughtful, well planned and insightful tour in the Sacred Valley.

The perfect private tour experience The BEST way to tour is with a small private tour and the team at come see Peru made the experience absolutely incredible. Nothing was rushed and the whole experience was calm, fun and educational. I booked really last minute at 9pm the night before our tour, Julio was a great help and was able to accommodate all of our requests. He arranged a slightly later collection for us as we had just spent a day travelling by minibus. Carlitos our guide was superb, his English is great. He was full of knowledge and able to answer every question we had about the 2 sites we visited. We also made an extra stop in Moras at a local families store for products from the salt mines and an additional explanation of how the salt flats are used. Nothing was too much trouble for our driver Cristóbal who was glad to stop at additional view points along the way and even took us to a fantastic lunch spot before driving us back to Urumbamba. The whole team went above and beyond our expectations and I would definitely recommend them to anyone. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Overview

Overview

Hiking the Inca Trail is one of those bucket list items for anyone planning a trip to Machu Picchu and it is something you should not miss if you travel to Peru to visit Machu Picchu.
The short trail hike to Machu Picchu is almost always available all year round, except in February when it is closed for maintenance.

Unlike the classic 4-day Inca Trail, which involves hiking up high mountain passes and camping in the wilderness, the short Inca Trail is a relatively easier trek. The 2-day Inca Trail does not involve camping, but you will spend the night in a 3-star hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes. This makes it a family-friendly trek to Machu Picchu.

Why you’ll love this tour?

  • You will visit Machu Picchu twice.
  • It is not necessary to be 100% acclimatized to the altitude.
  • Enter Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate as the Incas did.
  • Spend the night comfortably in a 3-star hotel in Aguas Calientes.

What can you expect to see on the Short Inca Trail?

The Short Inca Trail is a great option for those who want to experience the beauty of the Andes and Machu Picchu in just two days. On the trail, trekkers can expect to see breathtaking mountain landscapes including stunning snow-capped mountains, travelers will also encounter ancient Incan ruins such as Winay Wayna and Inti Pata. At the end of the trek, visitors will arrive at Machu Picchu – one of the world’s most impressive UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Is the Short Inca Trail worth it?

Of course yes, the 2-day Inca Trail is the best Inca Trail tour you can choose, not only because for the classic 4-day Inca Trail the permits are sold out, but also because the short 2-day Inca Trail has become the most requested tour by travelers.
The best thing about the 2 day Inca Trail is that you can even do it all in 1 day, so there is a 1 day Inca Trail which you could also opt for.

Other reasons that make it worthwhile to do the Inca Trail in 2 days is that you don’t need to be acclimatized to the maximum altitude that this trek reaches, you can hike the 2 day Inca Trail even the day after arriving in Cusco. Why? because the maximum altitude on the 2 day Inca Trail is 2730 masl (8956 ft). as opposed to the classic Inca Trail whose maximum altitude is 4200 (13,828 ft).

See Machu Picchu 2 Times!!

Combine your tour to Machu Picchu with a day hiking in the amazing landscape leading to it!

Not only that, see Machu Picchu 2 times with only 1 ticket, the 2 day Inca Trail has become the most preferred trek by many hikers and is even the best option after the classic 4 day Inca Trail. There are no excuses not to do it, book your 2 day Inca Trail tour with local experts and live the best experience visiting Machu Picchu twice in 2 days

Do take a moment to check our reviews on Tripadvisor.

Please let us know in advance which is the train schedule of your preference. It is important to know that none of the trains go directly to Cusco, trains only arrive at Ollantaytambo or Poroy stations. In any of the cases we will always guarantee a bus of return to Cusco.

Yes, you can make this change personally at the Aguas Calientes train station. However, they will ask you to pay an additional fee for changing the ticket and this change will be subject to the availability of spaces and timetables on the train. In this case you will be responsible for assuming the cost of your return transport from Ollantaytambo to Cusco.

You will travel for about three and a half hours before returning to Cusco. And this is divided into a one-and-a-half hour train ride to the Ollantaytambo train station. Most of these establishments have stores where they will keep their things. If you do not trust the place where you are staying, we will gladly store your belongings in our office.

From May to September (dry season) is the ideal time to travel the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. These months are generally good for the crossing due to the low frequency of rains.

In the months of November to March the summer (rainy season) is present. This season is usually very rainy, which makes walking and access difficult. You will not even be able to walk the Inca Trail in February due to rainfall and maintenance work.

Useful Information

  • Starting Altitude – 2100m / 6900ft.
  • Highest Altitude – 2730m / 8,792ft.
  • Walking Distance – 10km / 6.3 miles

Overall Difficulty – Easy to Moderate difficult (depends on your level of fitness).

If you’re concerned about making it because you are relatively unfit, we recommend doing at least two long-distance (5km) mountain hikes in your home country before you undertake your Machu Picchu trek.

If you find you are out of breath you are pushing yourself too hard, reduce distance and intensity until you get to a comfortable pace and slowly build up your endurance. Make sure you go slowly on your trek, particularly on the ascents up. Breathe deep into your lungs and do not overexert yourself that´s it!! Now you´re ready!!

Travel Guide

What You Need to Know Before Booking Machu Picchu 2 Day Inca Trail

You have to know that´s NOT a 2 day trek it’s actually only ONE hiking day on day 1.

Important: The Peruvian government and the ministry of culture have established new rules for those doing the Inca Trail this 2022.

If you arrive to Machu Picchu through the 2-day Inca Trail, you will only be able to visit the upper part of Machu Picchu on your way out.

This means that once you arrive at Machu Picchu on day 1 you will have time to take pictures and visit the highest part of Machu Picchu. Then you will have to leave. On your second day you will only be able to visit the lower part of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

The 2 day Inca trail is relatively easy compared to the 4 day inca trail. You need to take the train from Ollantaytambo to km 104 from where you start the trek to Machu Picchu after the trek you spend the night in Aguas Calientes in a Hotel

The Inca sites you will visit along the short Inca trail are the Inca site of Chachabamba and the Inca site of Wiñay Wayna. This trek offers you the best sections of the Inca trail condensed into a single day with a total distance of 10 km / 6.3 míles.

Weather in Short Inca Trail 2 Days 1 Night

The most important thing to know is there are only two seasons in Cusco: wet and dry season. The rainy season is from November until March and the dry season is April until October. It doesn’t rain every day or all day in the rainy season and of course rain can happen during any month – even during the height of the dry season.

Weather changes so much throughout the day, We wouldn’t recommend shorts for hiking the short Inca trail. You could wear trail pants that zip off into shorts, bring a fleece with you for the morning of your hike. This might be the only trek where you don’t need a down jacket as your one night will be in Aguas Calientes where it is considerably warmer.

Would you like to do the 2-day Inca Trail hike in 1 day?

Yes it is possible! if you are short of time even to do the 2 day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu don’t worry, we offer you the option to do the 1 day short Inca Trail. Click on the link to know more about the 1 day Inca TrailInca Trail 1 day hike to Machu Picchu.

For the 2 day Inca Trail tour briefing your local guide will show up at your hotel in Cusco, if you are staying in the Sacred Valley the briefing or orientation about the tour will be over the phone. Your guide will give you a complete explanation about the 2 day Inca Trail hike, as well as some tips to make it even easier.

About what time is the briefing this will depend more on you than on us, as soon as you arrive in Cusco you must inform us at what time and where we can meet you to give you the respective orientation of the 2 day Inca Trail tour.

You must take into account that there are only 250 spaces available for the 2 day Inca Trail for 2022, these spaces include tour guides and porters in case there are any. Once the spaces are fully taken, the reservation system for the Inca Trail 2 day tour will close, so you should reserve the spaces as soon as possible, we suggest booking at least 4 months in advance.

Another very important thing you should know is that the 2-day Inca Trail trek cannot take place on your own, you must necessarily hire an authorized company.

Short Inca Trail: Availability

A very important factor that all our travelers must take into account is the reservation process for the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu; due to the high demand and also for the preservation of this tourist route, Peruvian regulations establish a daily maximum of 250 tickets for this package. Remember also that all Inca Trail tours are suspended in February each year for maintenance work.

Therefore, it is good that you begin to manage your reservation with adequate anticipation; as of today, there are still vacancies for the end of July and the rest of the season that goes until January 2018; we update the availability for the Short Inca Trail in real time on our website, and you can also contact our staff directly for any additional information and also to start your reservation process
