Machu Picchu & Huayna Picchu in One Day?
Huayna Picchu Mountain is an iconic site that attracts many adventurers and history buffs everyday from around the world. But, is it possible to visit the citadel of Machu Picchu and climb Huayna Picchu in a single day from Cusco?
Of course, it is possible to visit Machu Picchu and climb Huayna Picchu in one day. Machu Picchu is famous for its ancient buildings and beautiful views, while Huayna Picchu offers an exciting hiking adventure with incredible scenery.
Although it would be ideal to spread the experience over two days, it is also possible to do it in a single day. Here are some tips to help you make the most of your visit:
Take the first train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes at 5:05 am. You will reach Aguas Calientes at around 6:50 am. Once there, go directly to the bus ticket office, buy your bus ticket (round trip) and queue for the bus, the bus ride to the ruins of Machu Picchu takes about 25 minutes. Before entering Machu Picchu, it is advisable to go to the restroom. With your Circuit 2 ticket, you shoud enter Machu Picchu at 8 am and explore it for approximately 2 hours with your guide.
After the guided tour, take a break outside Machu Picchu, use the restrooms or enjoy a cup of coffee. At 10:30 am, re-enter from the lower part and head to the entrance of Huayna Picchu Mountain. It will take between 45 minutes and an hour to climb to the top of Huayna Picchu. Once there, you will have about 20 minutes to enjot the views and take facinating photos. Then you will have to descend and take your bus back to town.
We suggest taking the bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes around 14:00 or no later than 15:00. Then head to Aguas Calientes for lunch. Then take the 18:20pm train back to Ollantaytambo, you will be back in Cusco at around 22:30.
